I feel like we haven’t fully grasped how much these climate and airport destabilizations are also functioning as multiple mass superspreader crises.

The next few weeks are going to be ugly. It already feels like everyone I know is either digging out their neighborhoods, trapped in airports or dealing with COVID.

There is so much trauma happening right now and we keep bypassing that to race toward “normalization” instead of reckoning with the hard parts.

When I've explained many times before how we are living through the outcome of decades of infrastructure building within overlapping segments of the white supremacist nationalist movement ecosystem, this is what I meant:

Hopelessness is a strategy. An erosion in trust, transparency, accountability in public systems.

Placing obstacle after obstacle to our ability to safely participate in democracy.

An innovation economy that thrives on scaling dehumanization.

A metronomic terrorism on your personal well-being and safety

I have news...

A thread! 🧵

The developments at Google and the cascading harms at Pinterest have been hard to witness, as a technologist, a Black woman and someone who cares for people... Not surprising, but hard. The distinction is important. The hard is an exhaustion, a tiredness, a "Oh here we go again..." familiarity.

But I've also been enormously inspired by Black women in technology leading in spite of these hard conditions. I am so grateful they are here.

All these calls to Trust Black Women has triggered a *very* specific form 2016 Resistance PTSD.

I just got a pit in my stomach remembering all the requests from “well-meaning” white people to pick my brain for ideas on “how to help” for their well-funded projects or startups. It was all so performative and extractive.

I remember one of these was from YCombinator. I remember how the only time I could make talking to her work for me was while I was shuttling my nephew to tiny tiger taekwondo (he’s a black belt!)
