What happened in Venezuela today is so disturbing because it’s yet another sign of the ongoing dismantling of the post-war international legal order—an architecture built in response to Nazi crimes.

It never worked particularly well. It was deeply flawed and often weaponized to serve Western interests. But it did place some constraints on unbridled power. That restraint is now being stripped away.
