Mastitis and sepsis risk for those with ‘top surgery’
A trans man (a woman) who has had their breasts removed may have a few lobules remaining. This remaining breast tissue will respond in pregnancy to hormonal changes thus she could develop painful cystic collections in her breast tissue that puts her at risk of mastitis, infection and even sepsis.
For a woman who has detransitioned, and now accepts her natal sex and has become pregnant, this pain adds to the psychological burden of having lost her breasts from the iatrogenic harm done to her as a younger woman or even as a child. @LushLtd need to end this campaign. ‘Top surgery’ means bilateral removal of breast tissue with nipple graft or reconstruction to flatten the appearance of the chest, and leaves none of the necessary organs to breastfeed.
Their reconstructed nipples are not attached firmly to the chest wall anymore, as the underlying tissue has been removed. Some women have used a tube to deliver baby formula to the child while the baby suckles from a nipple, but this would not work for reconstructed nipples. @LushLtd
