“When can these [college] kids get their life back?” I am truly losing sleep the past few nights over this: amidst a raging mental health crisis, university leaders think it wise to send these kids off to winter break by announcing impending restrictions to come? 1/ I’ve heard from a number of my students truly dismayed @UMassLowell announced a booster mandate days after they finished a tough semester.Really? Leaders thought that was good timing to announce this to stressed kids who are already worried they’ll never get a normal semester? 2/

The @Surgeon_General’s youth mental health advisory emphasizes the need for “positive, affirming” school environments because “the experiences young people have at school have a major impact on their mental health.” I wonder if he’s asked his @CDCgov colleagues to assist? 🧵 (1/) Image In many schools (& universities, for that matter) what began as mitigation measures in the name of public health, have morphed into excuses for toxic relational behaviors that would have never been acceptable in an educational environment prior to this period.
