Everyone knows that sludge models require deep training on data. What I've been trying to call attention to is just how much of the training imagery shows up in the sludge output.
There it is, clear as day. Scraped and spit right out.
Good eagle eye on this one @BerkayFerah
This a really big one that doesn't get as much attention as I think it should.
If there's something you see working *really well* in the sludge, there's a good chance that's the part an actual artist contributed—not something code dreamed up.

That last RT from Cabeza Patata also included a link to their instagram (cabeza_patata). They are a multidisciplinary studio specializing in character design, based in Barcelona.
I've grabbed a few other slides from their post: instagram.com/p/CMSIGEunHAQ/
This is a really really good summary of the crypto-ecosystem. With illustrations!

CHARACTER DESIGN 101!!
"A character made up of a square may feel stable..."
"whereas one made up of triangles may give off a more excitable feeling."

Animator and artist Yoichi Kotabe seems to be the key thread connecting everything I love about Mario/Zelda Nintendo design. Sure, Miyamoto got the ideas and worlds off to a great start. I'm mainly talking aesthetic here.
See 'Doki Doki Panic', where Kotabe enters around 1985.
He created that art, and this art for the redone US version of 'Doki Doki Panic' (Super Mario Bros 2). Which got me looking and thinking. A lot of the weird surreal character design first shows up in Mario 2. Did Kotabe have something to do with that?

Color theory tip: Using 'Desaturate' in Photoshop is not the same as saving to Grayscale, or checking for value. So don't use 'Desaturate' to convert colors to grays if you want to preserve value.
One might even say that as a solution, it's ... unacceptable.
There's also a handy trick to check your values via Proof Colors. Create a Custom Proof Condition (set to say.. Working Gray - Dot Gain 20%)
That way you can hit (cmd Y) to toggle Proof Colors on and off.
RISD's right up there at $51K. I don't know how you kids are doing it.

Character study: Tony the Tiger. One of the most recognized cereal mascots for Kellogg's Sugar Frosted Flakes. Created in 1952 — credit is disputed so I'm not gonna get into it. Seems like a lot of ad guys and artists were involved.
One thing I did learn is that Tony had to beat out a few other mascot contenders. Kellogg's launched a series of boxes in 1951-1952 to see which box would sell the most cereal. Have you heard of Katy the Kangaroo? Probably not, but there she is! Note the scarf/kid combos.
