Thread on what's happening in Lakshadweep, and we should all be paying attention to it.

1/N It all has to do with Lakshadweep's newly-appointed Administrator Praful K Patel, and something called the Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation, 2021, a destructive new order that threatens the way of life of all the indigenous people living there. 2/N

I seriously don't know why more people aren't worried about the govt's rules to regulate OTT and news content online.

Basically the govt. will have a say in what you watch, and what news you read. It will seriously disrupt how we consume content, news, and anything in between. They will target news organisations who are criticising the govt, fact checkers who call them out, and independent journalists who have consistently been reporting on things mainstream media ignores or worse... covers up.

The govt is starting a new program to allow anyone to report social media posts as "anti-national"

The program allows anyone to sign up as "Unlawful Content Flaggers" and report online content to the govt.

1/n The govt will then go through that content and decide whether it's "anti-national" or not. They can remove it or take further action like arrests, which tbf the govt loves doing to anyone anyway.
