In teaching the transatlantic slave system, I want to share a few individual stories that can be used in the classroom. The first is Belinda Sutton, an enslaved woman taken from the Gold Coast (today’s Ghana) around 1724

A few thoughts about media and the horrors in Palestine 🧵
I spent many years teaching about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and it was always a challenge helping high school students make sense of what they see on the front page of newspapers or on TV. /1 Too often the mainstream media oversimplifies the conflict into platitudes about "eternal hatred" or "self-defense" and the media fails to provide a deeper understanding of the historical roots of the conflict over the last century. /2
