Richard Baxter summarized his advice to depressed and anxious persons in the advice below. Ahead of his time & well-balanced (🧵):
A wise person, when sick, will entrust themselves, under God, to the direction of a physician and the help of friends. Do the same, if you are wise.
Trust yourself to some appropriate advice. Don't despise the giver's judgment about either your condition or your duty. You think that you are lost and that there is no hope. Listen to someone in a better position to judge.

Remembering Dr. King on this 56th anniversary of his death with a brief thread on his important contrast between what we could call "moderates" and "moderatISM." #MLK#MLKLegacy#MLK55
The differences between the two are vast and have important implications for us today:
In a June 4, 1957 speech to students at UC Berkley, King shared with his audience a beautiful vision for nonviolence. Agape love, he said, is at the center of nonviolent resistance. This love both shapes the character of those resisting AND pushes back on the violence of the age.
