Listening to @WestofCentreCBC and hearing patients need to be more polite — I think a lot about how my father and my family were so polite and not wanting to cause a fuss for workers and how that was probably a factor in why he suffered so horrifically. In a hospital in crisis, being polite and quiet means you're easy to ignore as you move on to the person screaming at the nurses from the next room. It wasn't until I pushed past the impulse to be a nice person that my advocacy got any traction at all.
