The Met arrested members of the City of Westminster’s Night Safety team. They are volunteers. They were pulled last night at 2am and have been held for 14 hours. One of them came out of the station in tears. Police didn’t apologise. They were arrested by the Territorial Support Group.

I’m looking at going to London to see what I can do to help / be in a position to do some reporting. If I’m honest, I’d rather not spend the money on train tickets but needs must when the devil is Home Secretary.

Since @lstwrd didn’t think my debate on the monarchy with Ruth Dudley Edwards was podcast worthy, here’s a section of my opening statement. The word missing from the end of that clip is “farcical”.

Oh fuck off, cunt. I know I’m meant to be civil or whatever but I’m fucking tired of it. These people are so tedious.

Curiously this debate didn’t make it onto their podcast. I have never been paid to appear on The Last Word — I have by the BBC for instance — and somehow it was totally cool to let RDE go personal instantly. It was a cheap debate and set up to be a bun fight. Nick Ferrari’s show used to try and jump me when I went on there and they still owe me £30 so I’ll never go on there again. Similarly, I might be off Today FM now that the producer gaslit me after her own colleague effectively apologised when he told me they’d booked RDE.

Depends on who you think the audience are. They are writing for an angry minority — some of whom can be inspired to violence by stochastic terrorism — and broadcast producers who are so lazy and cheap that they lean on Sun and Mail lines.

Plus there’s a swathe of centrists… … who will suddenly believe the Mail, Sun, Telegraph et al. when the subject of the abuse is someone they also dislike or when the campaign line is in their interests. Just as many people wouldn’t admit voting Labour after Iraq, many Tories have got a lot, lot *shyer.

Was just on @lstwrd debating the monarchy with Ruth Dudley Edwards. Of course, she decided to be personally insulting and to castigate me for being unfair to King Charles. Joke arguments in favour of a joke institution. Matt moderated well but I felt I had to fight hard. My dad is a republican and served during the Falklands War; I will not have it implied that he or any republican who has fought for their country is less loyal because they do not genuflect to the Windsors.

Feeling uncomfortable in public when you perceive a possible danger is not somehow evil. Where the evil comes in is when you cannot transcend your discomfort and in the case of Jordan Neely, when someone kills a person for making them feel socially uncomfortable… … I find your elision of social discomfort with someone being choked to death by people who cannot stand the city being a complicated place to live uncomfortable. But I’m just going to say so and then move on.

The reason I went into school to advocate for my daughter and her friends over the unfair toilet and discipline policies was because they were being treated as less than by the institution. They are not prisoners — and we should treat prisoners better too — they are students… … and if we were a better society we would treat children and young people better rather than having shifted schools further into factories for producing people who won’t cause trouble in the workplace. We spend too much time asking business ‘leaders’ what education should be.

Cannot talk about the specifics of this case as it’s an ongoing legal process BUT I will say that there is a general belief among men of a certain age that they can act like they’re in a Western… Image … I was walking home talking to my mother on the phone recently and was in an otherwise deserted back street when a man in his 60 or 70s passing me on the pavement — he was behind me — told me I was “too loud” and “a lout”. I was having a normal chat to my mum.

Fucking idiot alert. And I’d be careful with those libels, ‘Reg’.

I’ve been through enhanced DBS checks as a governor. Care to share yours? Those Glinnerites who like to throw around the American-sourced attack line “groomer” would be wise to think carefully about it. It’s a major accusation and one that is libellous.

Just been thinking about this a bit more. I don’t believe in “discipline” when it comes to children. My step-daughter knows I’m on her team; I’m on her side. I never ask her to do something I wouldn’t do. I model what I think works. I admit when I fuck up. And crucially, I’m the Riker of our household. My wife is Captain Picard. I’m a step-parent and that means you have to take your lead from the boss. I have my say and my views are respected but my wife is the ultimate arbiter.

It’s “common sense” to put children at greater risk of violence or abuse? These ideologues know nothing about what safeguarding actually is or how it should be done in the interests of young people. The first bit of common sen... Children are not our possessions. I am perhaps more aware of that than most as a step-parent. But my daughter thanked me yesterday for caring that her school is not treating her or her friends properly and doing something about it. She doesn’t need to — I told her — it’s my job.

Watching ‘Lyra’ the other day I realised how little I have processed the grief at her loss. I sobbed big shoulder shaking tears during it. The loss is incalculable. She was one of the best; she’s already a legend despite being given such a short time. She was one of the greats. I’m good with words but they are too limited to express her quality. She was a journalist to her bones, capable of doing things most hacks could never imagine. She was fearless. She was ‘lesbian Tintin’ (a nickname I gave her that she loved to quote back at me).

I got several comments like this. I made it clear in the original thread that the number of toilets that they allowed to use during breaks is insufficient. I also made it clear that the toilets are in poor order.

But beyond that… why are so many people such weird sadists? Also: at lunch time it often becomes a choice of queuing for the loo or queuing for lunch (and often the lunch queue is so long and poorly policed that the less physically dominating Year 7 and 8s don’t get time to eat)

I’m glad the toilet sadists are revealing themselves. I got 3 As at A-level, a big clutch of A* at GCSE. I fought stupid rules my whole career. I was the first person in my family to go to university *at all*. Until recently I was governor of an excellent inner-city primary. I’m sorry if SLT struggle to come up with policy that works but doesn’t dehumanise children. “If you had worked in a school…” Do you patronise the kids like you just patronised me? Because I’m nearly 40 and I wouldn’t have taken it at 15.

I’m writing to my step-daughter’s head of year this week about the school policy of refusing children’s request to go to the toilet when they need to during lessons. It is a joke. Kids struggle to concentrate because they need to go and at breaks when they *are* allowed… … they are restricted to a single set of toilets which are obviously then very busy. The toilets in the school — which is a converted shoe factory — are in an appalling state at all times with ceiling tiles falling into the toilets.

A lot of the lib favourites — the supers and Russes of the world — base their ‘comedy’ around weird working class stereotypes, calling people fat, thick, ugly or a combination of all three. It’s a very revealing kind of ‘comedy’, especially as they cry bullying when challenged. The lines — mostly Thick of It knockoffs or sub-sub-BrassEye/Brooker insults — they use about someone like Dorries are instructed. They seem to believe that classism, ableism, misogyny etc. are all fine as weapons for them while they honk on about how left-wing they are.

There was a documentary crew in Derry in the day(s) before the unrest and they played a role in stirring things up. I have some evidence that members of that crew had previously ‘faked’/provoked footage in another documentary. I tried very hard — along with a BAFTA winning producer — to get that story onto TV. And commissioners were too fucking chicken shit. I still want to tell that story. Someone with guts will let me do it one day.
