The Privy Council is centralizing authority behind a wall of secrecy.

Another case in point...
🧵/1 The Minister of Democratic Institutions was a cabinet position created by Paul Martin in 2003.

Martin pledged this new portfolio in his internal party campaign to become the new PM, after Chretien reigned due to his corruption becoming public.

Have you heard of "Canada 20/20"?

It's the political interference our media won't talk about.

"Expert opinion on the scope and effects of disinformation and its links with extremism in Quebec and Canada"

Final report,
Prepared for the Privy Council, July 2023

A Thread 🧵 Image "Western democracies are facing a growing phenomenon characterized by the convergence of disinformation, conspiracy theories, and violent extremism. This trend appears to have been accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was exploited by certain political and social actors. This trend is reflected not only in the rise of extremist movements but also in the increasing social polarization, hateful discourse on social networks, and rising incidents of violence in North America, Europe, and, to a lesser extent, Oceania over the past decade.

A wide range of extremist ideologies has emerged, bringing together diverse ideological horizons under a conspiratorial vision of the crisis and a shared rejection of official discourse and public health measures. This convergence spans various ideological perspectives, ranging from far-right radical movements, ultranationalism, and libertarianism to more authoritarian or non-authoritarian forms of populism...

Surveys conducted by Statistics Canada (2021) and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) reveal the increasing prevalence of conspiracy theories and extremist rhetoric." /2
