the hardest problem in engineering delivery metrics, is convincing engineers that measuring the team is helpful and not going to be held against them individually.

any semblance of "data driven" goes completely out the window once it's about measuring the team, and not computers i get it, we naturally mistrust managers and past exercises like stack ranking and other terrible ideas like measuring lines of code have ruined trust.

but, this is just another example of how software isn't just about systems of computers.

I think the remote work many people are about to experience isn’t going to be great, and may end up disencouraging the wider adoption of it.

Many of you are about to be thrown into ad-hoc processes, hang in there and don’t let that fully color what you think about remote work. Also, remote work fanatics do more harm than good. I’ve seen some terrible takes in this time, with people convinced that these wide adoptions in the time of emergency will be great.

Distributed teams aren’t better than co-located ones, they’re different, and can be good or bad
