In what has to be a first in my 17 years in the industry, a sex toy company is publishing on their invention of… a new potentiometer?

I am both impressed (because hey cool technical info!) and confused (because I’m not sure who this info is for other than nerds that follow me?) Looks like @VALOR_TOUGHNESS are also touting new motors they’ve built for the toy. I’m suspecting we may get another blog post from them on this soon, but here’s an example from Reddit:

... Several questions.

Several. Gotta love marketing material where googling the motor model numbers only brings up references to the product itself. Exploded image of a stroker...

YOU DEMANDED IT.

And I obliged.

Cbat by Hudson Mohawke, as accompanied by Trombone Champ played using an Interactive Fleshlight from 2003.

(Cursor is moved by varying air pressure levels in the fleshlight.)

I'm gonna go clean the lube off my desk now. For those curious about the construction of this setup, here's the thread where I built this earlier this week:

Suddenly the idea of putting an accelerometer on a fleshlight is interesting again. *looks at Trombone Champ*

*looks at vast onahole collection*

*looks at vive/tundra trackers and Index controllers*

oh no

how my evening is going. Been stuck for 3 days trying to figure out why Intiface Engine for Android kept acting like things weren't initializing.

Turns out I forgot to change library versions in one of the project chain files after releasing btleplug v0.10, so it still referred to a local version.

Gamers, we know you're upset, and we're listening.

You want Elden Ring in your butts, and we're dedicated to making this possible, even if we're still playing Horizon Forbidden West.

We're pulling out all the stops and doing what we can to make the Shared Gamer Dream a reality. (Translation for non-nerds: This is about the most Computer Science Jackass route I can go in terms of getting buttplugs working with Elden Ring, short of a DIY hardware solution. I can't promise this will work but I'll be tracking the stupidity in this thread.)

Welp.

As of a patch that went out today, there’s now OSC on VRChat on Quest.

Which means we now have network access to the headset, so we could offboard toy control.

Buttplug access from VRC on Quest via OSC can now be a thing.

Crap, I probably need to get a Quest now. :( Note that things like VGB and other collision/camera based systems can’t happen quite yet because we can’t get that info over OSC yet.

According to the roadmap this should be possible in the future tho.

Today in "completely normal things that happen when you run a sex toy library":

The library tried to connect to someone's dog feeder.

That sound you hear is every pup follower I have replying simultaneously to say "YES PLEASE SUPPORT THIS IN THE LIBRARY". Image For those wondering:

When adding Satisfyer support, we were too lax with checking for BLE advertised services as hardware identification so we get WAY too many things trying to ident as Satisfyer sex toys. Fixing that in an upcoming release.

But for now, enjoying the chaos.

Since Satisfyer toys (Satisfyer.buttplug.Io) seem to mostly work in buttplug now, I ordered a couple more while their sale was on to test. Showed up real quick, here’s some comparison photos.

First off, the wand box is BIG. Ok wow. The Satisfyer double wander (Satisfyer.buttplug.io) is the size and weight of an actual magic wand. Except that is has:

- Bluetooth
- a battery
- interchangeable heads

Shown next to a magic wand and a lovense domi. Vibration is far more “rumbly” than the domi.

New Lovense toys showing up on the FCC website!

There's a few, which I'll list in the thread here.

First off, the Calor!

Another stroker, this time with heating, vibration, and depth sensing! Looks like the max but with a few different options?

fcc.report/FCC-ID/2AXNT-C… The Hush 2, which looks like it comes in 1.5", 1.75", and new 2.25" "Hotdog For Your Hallway" sizes.

Also lost the little curly antenna/perineum stimulator?

And more importantly: NO MORE WEIRD THREAD TEXTURE ON THE NECK!

[thread]

Since it's just not a day this week without a thread from me...

I'd like to stop talking about QIUI for a bit, and instead focus on users.

A question I've been tangentially asked multiple times this week:

Is there a way to make computer connected BDSM products safe? Image We've gotta think in two different directions here:

- What the user of this kind of product wants
- The capabilities this kind of product could feasibly provide

The push and pull between these two points is what makes this question so ridiculously hard to answer.

Finally giving up on my hopes of doing a max 2 unboxing video in order to figure out the lovense firmware issues in buttplug. :| Ok. Max 2 firmware upgraded, at v213, and... it works fine in Chrome Buttplug Playground?

[THREAD sorry]

So @smealum's #defcon #buttplug talk is done.

Piecing together what I can from slides posted to Twitter since going to Defcon would requires leaving the house.

AFAIK, our software is not affected by this specific exploit chain.

Info and some thoughts follow. I will warn that this thread will be painfully technical.

If you're following me for intimate UI/UX contexts and don't wanna see a bunch of talk about OS API models and firmware and what not, feel free to mute this thread, I'll tag everything from here out with #meltbutt too.
