The ubiquitous bad UX tic in voice assist is even worse in this context-- why must devices slowly repeat back the wording of your questions like they're language students?

"Do I need an umbrella today?"
(pause)
"No, you do not need an umbrella today."

This is true of every software voice thing and it's absurd. Isn't saving me time the whole point? If I ask for the name of a song, you don't have to say "The name of the song is... ". Just say "Sultans of Swing" and be quiet. Or add some more context but don't repeat the question

Thread: Restoring, refurbishing, upgrading a 1977-vintage Commodore PET computer. I got one of these awhile back, I love how weird and futuristic they look. This is the model I got, it's a revision with a normal keyboard but early enough to have the wee robot head screen: Image (PSA: This will be a long and long-running thread over time, please feel free to mute it! 😅This is the latest project on the bench here at Hayes Valley Hardware, and I thought it might be fun to do a play by play here. instagram.com/hayesvalleyhar… )

Thread: An attempt to reconstruct, manually, the data on a corrupted 5.25" Apple II floppy disk which contains a game I wrote when I was in elementary school. I think it can be done! Here's the disk. It won't boot and I can't open it for catalog under ProDOS or DOS 3.3. Image (This is a game about greyhound racing (!) which I've never seen in person but there was a dog track in Revere MA near where I grew up, it was called Wonderland, and this game was a fancier *sequel* to some earlier thing I had made.)
