If you’re going to KubeCon this year, here’s a few things that are a not-excessive distance from San Diego by car and are (in my opinion at least) worth spending an extra day in the area on your own dime, but that you might not hear about through the usual Google searches.
Torrey Pines Gliderport offers tandem paragliding (or solo if that’s a thing you do). It’s a bit pricey but it’s close by and it’s a *lot* of fun.

Some random thoughts on recruiters and recruiting for Thursday. Some of these have happened to me, others to people I know. I'm not calling anybody out specifically (but if you're a recruiter and feel that way anyway, considering why you feel that way might be useful for you).
GET NAMES RIGHT. This is classic Dale Carnegie -- "A person's name is to that person, the sweetest, most important sound in any language." If you're so sloppy that you call me Tom in your opening message, why would I talk to you about something as important to me as my job?

This seems like a good place to mention that the US Bureau of the Census likes to talk about how strict they are about privacy, even once turning away FBI agents who arrived at the Colorado Springs BOC office with a warrant for confidential Census data. But...
