Characterizing interaction of HNRNPK and PTBP1 as key interactors of SINEUP, lncRNAs that enhance protein translation. These proteins have important role in nuclear export and promotion of translation initiation assemblies.

Press: riken.jp/en/news_pubs/r… Kudos to Naoko Toki, who defended today her PhD (and will be looking for a postdoc abroad) on this extensive work. After answering to all reviewers we ended up in a paper with 11 figures, covering broadly from discovery to function towards the mechanism.

FANTOM papers out in Genome Research!
In the core paper, we show lncRNAs function by knocking down 300 lncRNAs followed by CAGE and imaging analysis. See also transcript recounting and zoo promoterome works

genome.cshlp.org/content/early/… In FANTOM6, we refocused on testing lncRNA function by knocking down ~300 lncRNAs in human dermal fibroblasts, followed by CAGE transcriptional network analysis and imaging. Results show that for a considerable % of lncRNAs there is function, either measured by CAGE or imaging.

1- A key paper from our labs is finally out: nature.com/articles/s4146…. This work important because report a methodology: a new approach to globally detect where RNAs interact with chromatin. 2- A large number of lncRNAs are known to bind the chromatin: when their function is known, we see very interesting biology, but so far not many lncRNAs have been studied also because lack of any hint on their functions.
