ICYMI: H-Diplo/ISSF Roundtable on Secret Wars is now out! Contributors: @jessicalpweeks, Schuessler, Reiter, @segoddard

**Here’s a handy recap of ideas for future research that came out of the reviews and response**

issforum.org/roundtables/11… Public opinion. When do publics feel hoodwinked and exact costs for exposed secrets? Do they ever shrug shoulders and accept as a necessary evil? How to publish a first academic book? The “diss to book” transition can be daunting. I’ve collected some of my experience w the process inspired by @pstanpolitics's post. (FYI this targets first-time authors in polisci/social sciences) THREAD
*Approaching editor*
Early step is getting the book project on the radar screen of editors. Editors at univ presses typically manage a portfolio of disciplines (“politics”; “history”; “economics”). Editors decide whether to review a ms, identify reviewers, and manage the process

Another great post from @paul! Ahem allow me to pile on:
Covert war participation is another reason to revisit coding of wars in these datasets. Quick example: my personal fave, the Korean War (1/x)

End of Cold War confirmed rumors of Soviet covert participation in the air war. Thousands of encounters with US pilots and many encounters. One declassified U.S. intelligence analysis called it “a de facto air war” between the US/UN and USSR (2/x)

We often hear: "Job market these days means grad students have to publish while in grad school." OK sure. But how?

Some tips/ideas/advice …others should chime in! (THREAD) Important to take a big, amorphous goal like this and break it down. First step is choosing which idea to pursue as an article. Second is getting that idea into publishable shape. Third is submission. (R&R-type stuff is for another day…)
