If you are thinking about starting testosterone to transition, realize that within a couple of months, your voice will permanently change. Not only will it be deeper, but it could cause you a great deal of pain due to anatomical problems caused by taking T as an adult female. You might have trouble laughing, raising your voice, and could sound like you've been smoking for 50 years in your twenties. Because I was determined to get my singing voice back, I trained like crazy and can sing again. But my voice is still very much different than it was.

I've been called a liar for saying the main reason I detransitioned was because I was losing my singing voice. "Most people can't sing, so you would have been fine." But having something your whole life and then losing it is completely different than never having it at all. If I hadn't been able to sing to begin with, I would've developed another skill. It's heartbreaking to lose something you have a talent for, and that brings you a lot of joy. My voice had always been there for me no matter what I was going through, and suddenly it wasn't anymore.

It's obvious why it's harmful for minors to attempt to change sex, but do I think that "fully informed" adults can consent to undergoing gender affirming (i.e. sterilizing and mutilating) procedures? No. Here's a thread about why not. (1/?) First of all, there have never been clinical trials or controlled studies on the efficacy or safety of "gender-affirming" procedures. When doctors say it is relatively safe, they are lying. They can't know this, because they are basing it on insufficient, low-quality data. (2/?)
