Very good piece. After a politician in Germany was killed by a neo-Nazi, it was clear to Germans the depth of far-right extremism in the country & how online hate could lead to real-world violence. So they acted.

🇨🇦 should learn & act. And not wait for a politician to be killed. "In doing so, they have flipped inside out what, to American ears, it means to protect free speech. The authorities in Germany argue that they are encouraging and defending free speech by providing a space where people can share opinions without fear of being attacked or abused."

I've been doing a lot of thinking about climate change & challenges to landing key policy pieces that have broad public buy-in. It's critical to acknowledge real concerns of regular people. But you absolutely need to fight disinformation esp from right wing politicians & media /1 This a very good piece by @AaronWherry that applies equally to the transition to a clean economy (as he notes). This broad point is key: "Politicians need to find a path embracing compassion without capitulation." /2 cbc.ca/news/politics/…

Today, Canada is voicing its support for pricing pollution because carbon pollution knows no borders. Taking practical, proven, and affordable action against climate change is in our national interest. I don't want to fight in court. I want to fight climate change. cbc.ca/news/politics/…
