The Robotdebt story has a crucial chapter. A short period of only 11 days.

Then sell on those items on for cash. Uncle Jerry doesn’t like the idea. 1/7 Jerry is a policeman and advises his family that stealing is illegal and they’d have to find a legitimate way to make a living. The family ignore Jerry and set about recruiting more thieves from their wider friends and associates. They begin to make big money, efficiently. 2/7

I’m sure that one day my kids will ask me about this period. This period where scientists had been banging on about climate change for several decades. This period where the climate changed and everyone realised the scientists were right. - - - I’ll tell them how we knew what was coming and despaired that politicians kept getting elected who rejected the science in favour of their coal mining mates. How we had ‘leaders’ who said the science was crap. Or whose faith told them it was a Gods plan. And they didn’t act.

Residential towers on the east coast of Australia are a perfect storm for defective works. My first experience in the construction industry taught me the importance of checks and balances.
A thread. In 2000, as an engineering work experience student I tagged along to a site inspection with a structural engineer. He had designed the building, a commercial tower in Melbourne’s CBD. He was there to check the steel reinforcement (reo) had been installed correctly,
