Today, Fox News is holding its breath. It’s upfronts day! This afternoon they are filling a ballroom in Manhattan to try to sell advertisers on a full years’ worth of ad space *upfront*

If you were thinking of buying ad space on Fox… what would you be assessing? Fox is thinking hard about ✨strategy ✨ — they’re focusing attention on its “broader portfolio of assets that includes Fox Sports, the Fox broadcasting network, Fox News Media and the Tubi streaming hub.”

They’re saying “insurrection? What insurrection?” Image

A lot of people have weighed in on whether @Shopify should continue to monetize Libs of TikTok. @dhh was the latest! Here’s why he’s wrong. Here’s @dhh’s post on LinkedIn. This is not an unusual position for a tech founder to take. It’s easy to turn a blind eye to real world violence in this industry. But it’s not ok.

Hi. Today the congressional hearings on January 6 are starting. And I know we are all praying that accountability and justice take place — but did you know you can also do something super direct and pragmatic to hold the insurrectionists accountable?

npr.org/2022/06/09/110… Advertisers don’t want to fund violence — let alone the overthrow of the government. Soooooo why are they still on Fox News, the website that is fomenting the most brutal political, racial, and bigoted violence in the country??? checkmyads.org/fox/

The fight against disinformation is not new. Its history spans millennia. Sometimes disinformation (aka war propaganda) is held at bay. Sometimes, like now, it rages forth. It is used to divide us, to make fools of us, and to break us. Do not accept this. We can fight it now. One way to fight disinformation is to publish and aggressively distribute correct information with the highest possible journalistic standards. If Steve Bannon wants to flood the zone with shit, we flood the zone back by explaining 1) how he operates 2) what the actual issues are

Dan Bongino and his team are desperate and cringey and aggressive and honestly — it’s worked for them. Adtech companies have rewarded his emotional rants for years. But now, it’s backfiring. Advertisers are starting to block him. This has made him MAD. checkmyads.org/branded/dan-bo… In response to losing half a dozen adtech platforms and brands, Bongino has revved up a full spectrum attack on… advertisers.

Not what we would have expected. Breitbart did this back in 2016, and it was the beginning of the end for them.

Uhh this is big news: Investors in @HomeDepot and @Omnicom are asking each company to investigate if their ad campaigns have "helped spread hate speech and misinformation"

Apparently my quote was cut by the editors but I don't even care. This is a win.

nytimes.com/2021/01/18/bus… “Advertisers are not passive bystanders when they inadvertently finance harm,” the resolutions said. “Their spending influences what content appears online.”

They got the memo, wow.

NEW: The Breitbart crew have started over with new domains, new account IDs, and a new storyline. Will ad tech catch them? LOL no.

Here are the exact steps that we need to do. Thread:

branded.substack.com/p/the-next-fle… The new Breitbarts are the perfect encapsulation of what the collective efforts of the ad tech industry have achieved in brand safety: nothing. Keyword blocking, sentiment analysis, etc etc... They aren't working. branded.substack.com/p/the-next-fle…
