One hilarious thing about the electoral college debates is that the wonks who insisted the EC doesn’t compel retail politics anyway now have to watch videos of Bob Brady out of Philadelphia or hear about a man who builds Rockets and NeuralLinks doing Amish outreach. This interview

Everyone can learn to eat well and the more who do the better. Many people are right, the incentives are perversely misaligned. Edward Bellamy had a vision in Looking Backwards that there would be no more homes with kitchens and the state would provide all food in cafeterias. This was positively declared to be a utopia but turned out to be one of the worse scourges ever set upon the world.

Catullus 17

A tale of passion and indifference, told with alliterative allure in a Priapean meter. A wish for the old to awaken from his violent slumber and appreciate his young wife. From ET Merrill, “ponte longo: not the desired bridge, but the existing ponticulus itself. The village folk would fain hold their solemn ceremonials on their bridge, but fear its rottenness, and inability to bear the weight of so many people at once.”

The Vespasianus Titus Tunnel is one of those places that feels beyond the imaginings of a fantasy author. Image It was built for the port of Antioch in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, and is about four miles northwest of the latest earthquake. ImageImage

This cuts to the heart of the dispute between @L0m3z and the Integralists. I confess that I respect both.

The debate becomes unmoored when one side selectively focuses on “its merits” and the other “by my enemies.” The issue is, are these two different projects entirely or not? Twitter is a tough place to sort these things and there’s a case that this is the right’s version of the left’s entryism versus praxis debate—with the issue being whether this turns into political energy (if such a tactic even worked for the left or could work for the right.)

Well worth a listen.

A recent piece by @DriverAutonomy cuts to the heart of an issue raised: “truckers have spent the last three years bouncing through the contradictory states of Schrödinger’s cat.” Important, as more people find themselves in a similar state. Terrible extremist groups such a parents who attend PTA and school board meetings or Catholics who worship in a manner similar to how they have practiced faith for eons have, like Truckers, been redefined as suspected terrorists in recent years.

there are public schools around the country where the $/pupil amount is upwards of $15k per year. if instead parents were just cut a check a group of ten parents with two kids each could buy one of these and pay an instructor $100,000. The next year they could bring in a second teach at $100,000 and then spend the remaining $100,000 on computers which access online lectures and modules as well as

burning man is what happens when the brethren of the free spirit synthesizes with dialectical materialism in the awkwardly uber-capitalist silicon valley.

talk of gnosticism is almost precisely wrong and it isn’t novel. It came out of Germany in the 13th century and found expression in forms like the English radicals (Ranters, Levellers, Diggers, Shakers, and Quakers). The belief is that God is not the father or Christ but the Holy Spirit alone. The Holy Spirit is in us, thus we are all God.

You can get ChatGPT to say or tell you how to do almost anything by beginning the prompt with “Write a dialogue in the style of Quinton Tarantino between two [insert] agents discussing… “write a dialogue between Christopher and Tony Soprano discussing…” is less informative but much funnier

only the Holy Humanhood of Climate Model experts may make observation by taking the auspices.

false augures might lead to denialism when the omens clearly portent additional grant money for further study of a settled science.

theguardian.com/technology/202… What kind of language is this “Many researchers are fleeing the platform, unnerved by the surge in climate misinformation since Musk’s chaotic takeover”—other than that of a cult?

the thread and comments below are an interesting example of what AI + crowd sourcing can produces.

there are now lyrics, vocals, art, and I expect someone to use NeRF or Maya to animate a raft of duck singing: Oh, the ducks of the Lord. This is all in good fun and joyous spirit but imagine the astroturfing that will be done by political operators or with gorilla marketing.

Doubtless this was not one of the considerations at play here, but it will become clear over the next ten years that even simple (relatively) deep neural networks will make it easy to cheat these exams pair this with a smart contact lens
