Little bit of a rant: If you’re shocked by the allegations of message manipulation and soft censorship in this article, then you need to think more about the dynamic of a social media platform owned by a Beijing-based company. Social media literacy is national security, too. I get it that TikTok is hugely popular among a demographic that may be important to you. I get it that you can’t be part of a conversation if you’re not present. But you don’t need to be a think-tank expert to know that info control is important to China’s government #guardup
