Waarom zijn er zo weinig vlinders? Of het nu in de natuur of in de tuin is, en of er veel bloemen zijn of weinig, er zijn nu inderdaad weinig vlinders. Maar hoe komt dat nu? Een draadje. 1/ Dat er weinig vlinders zijn komt niet zomaar. Daar gaat een hele geschiedenis aan vooraf. Om te beginnen hebben we Nederland ontgonnen en elk stukje in gebruik genomen. Na ontginning hebben we ruilverkaveld en zijn we het land steeds intensiever gaan gebruiken. 2/

In 1946 the first species got extinct: the Purple-edged copper (L hippothoe). Once in a while a specimen is seen in the SE, dispersing from the German or Belgian populations, but they never established anymore. 2/11

Dutch heathland butterflies are dying. Where I remember that August was a great month to go there, now they are often a purple colored emptiness. What happened? 1/16 The Pearly Heath (Coenonympha arcania, tweekleurig hooibeestje) in NL was a species of the edge of heathland, last seen in 1989. It is unclear why it disappeared so rapidly (two years before they could still be seen in dozens). 2/16
