In 1772, English poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born in Devon. He wrote many poems including ‘Rime Of The Ancient Mariner’ He suffered from anxiety all his life & it’s been suggested he had bipolar. He was treated with laudanum, causing a lifelong addiction. Image In 1805, at the Battle of Trafalgar, Nelson gave his famous signal ‘England expects every man to do his duty’ from HMS ‘Victory’ just before battle commenced. This naval engagement gave the U.K. control of the seas, removing the possibility of a French invasion. Image

Photos to follow…. Longleat stately house, which is home to the Marquess of Bath. It’s set in 1000 acres of parkland, designed by Capability Brown. The house was built by Sir John Thynne, & designed by Robert Smythson. Construction started in 1568, & was finally completed in 1580.

I’ve never understood why people don’t grasp how utterly terrifying it is for a woman in that situation. During an attack the brain does 1 of 3 things: fight, flight or freeze. This reaction is involuntary, evolving as a survival mechanism. We have absolutely no control over it My response was to freeze. This happened when I was 13. I’ve never forgotten it, & despite years in therapy, it still informs so much of my habits & thoughts. I don’t think I can articulate just how utterly terrified I was.
