🧵Evangelical Explainer: Why Geelong Revival Centre is NOT extraordinary but IS problematic as Hell & a cult I read this brilliant piece by journo legend Richard Baker today, covering the Geelong Revival Crusade. To him & many readers, shocking. To evangelicals, passe
theage.com.au/national/whole… First of all, lets talk about this picture. Show me an exvangelical who hasn't seen an adaption this picture and I'll happily hand you my liver. It is the cornerstone of complementarity doctrine. Which is a nice way of saying patriarchal to the point of misogynistic. Image

🧵Evangelical Explainers! Why are Conservatives so Susceptible to Mis/Disinformation? 🧵

Its a question that's been on my mind, and should be on many minds as the American Evangelical contingent cheer on a convicted felon who is likely to incite another insurgency if he loses. Why? Because where America leads, politically, Australian, UK & NZ movements follow. This is as true of Political Dominionism as it is of the ideas in Project 25. Yes, we have a different judicial system & a different Parliamentary system but be not apathetic. Here's why 👇

I said earlier that this thread was important. But let me add to this (and throw ex-hub under the bus in the meantime). Some Dominionist groups/churches have been doing this for years.

Exhibit A: Citybuilders

A 🧵 2012: first cab off the rank was Patrick McIvor, who stood of his own volition and was elected. Citybuilders was gaining interest in politics though, and had been visited by Steve Fielding of Family First and Daniel Naliah of Rise Up Australia.

🧵Why can't American (and Australian) evangelicals/conservatives see that Trump is the opposite of Jesus? A damn good question (pardon the pun). It requires an explainer. The trigger for this thread was this little tweet 👇 The first notable thing here is that, no, this isn't hyperbole. Good Christian gullibility is a thing. Empirical evidence (from a US-based study) shows that conservatives are more susceptible to misinformation. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

🧵🧵🧵Want some juicy right wing Liberal goss? Of course. 😇This one is to do with Chris Crewther’s Christmas party. Ooooh lah. At first look, the photo is a boring gathering featuring bad hats. But oh! Who is that sitting up the back? According to a tipster it’s one Paul Pettit Image Who is Paul Pettit? Well! He’s a Freedom Party candidate. The same freedom party that hosted a questionable event out in Rowville earlier this year & spurred a bit of controversy over certain liberals who attended (who I won’t name b/c I’m already off their Christmas card list) Image

🧵So. A London-conference headlined by Jordan Peterson (or as I call him... does Hitchens) is kicking off, attended by 100 Aussie political types, and focusing on how the centre-right of politics can reclaim the social agenda. Wish.com

🧵A brilliant insightful article by @lucyham pulls apart hard-right conservatism's ills as seen in the Libs. It's a movement that borrows from American exceptionalism & the dangerous 7 Mountain Dominionism that we should see as a threat to true democracy

johnmenadue.com/federal-libera… I say true democracy as it hinges on a pseudo-Biblical belief that Christians have a mandate to take dominion in the seven domains of society and bring about God's will or government. Its an organised, clandestine movement I've been inside and it makes my blood run cold. Why?
