It’s a six-foot bird that can’t fly but can run 30 mph, hiss like a steam engine, and boom like a distant drum. Meet the emu, a cousin to the now extinct moa. It’s one of the two species we’re looking at as possible surrogates for a de-extinction of the moa.

52,000 years on ice, and the chromosomes are still intact. ❄️🧬 A woolly mammoth skin found in Siberia preserved the first “fossilized chromosomes” ever discovered. Think beef jerky… but straight out of the Ice Age. (1/4)
