Wait until this manager learns that despite me going to a “women’s college” that has NOT gone coed, there were plenty of men around, and not just profs and guys from other colleges? Alison hits all but one point I would’ve made, the comments hit the one thing(there ARE all-men colleges, they’re perfectly legal and just not that popular)… but, jeez.

Graham Norton's comments were not any sort of direct criticism of JKR, and yet there will be individuals who will harass him on her behalf for at least the next several years. He is the sort of celebrity who "has people". It's awful, but he'll be fine. Think about what's happening to him. Understand it also happens to human beings who do not "have people", who have to figure out how to sift through the abuse themselves.

When a person gets doxed, particularly when they’re trans, it’s a good idea to be a bit curious as to how the information became public before participating, even when you dislike them, even when you think the information about the person is objectively bad. I don’t publicly say the name of this forum involved today, but it’s not the kind of place you want to be freelancing for any more than you want to do the bidding of 8chan, and this is going to get worse, not better.

Today is a good day to chat with some of your online friends about what you'd like them to do if your twitter activity indicates you are having a crisis. There aren't many people who *want* police to get involved. And while some people might be close to their family of origin, not everyone is.

It's really quite simple. She's the fucking CDC director. If one of the most important and powerful science communicators on the planet meant something else, she could say that. If she meant something else, she could communicate that, in so many different ways- tweets, statements, interviews..... She has a lot of options.
