I’ve told this before, but worth a repeat. How I became interested in minor league baseball, thread. One summer, for my 13th birthday, my Dad proposed we go on a baseball road trip. 7 days, 7 cities, 7 games. I knew minor league baseball existed, but that’s about where my knowledge ended. My Dad was a Baseball America reader, though, and insisted that 3 of the games be the minor league variety. I think we went Milwaukee, Clinton, St Louis, Peoria, Cincy, Toledo, Detroit.

Okay, so you enjoyed the Hughes-Morel debuts. Let’s make a quick thread here to talk about other prospects I could see debuting in the next month or three. The big one looming on the horizon is SP Caleb Kilian, half of the Cubs return for KB, who has been brilliant in AAA this year, sometimes even without his best stuff. But he had that in his last outing. Is it possible he gets a cup of coffee in the May 30 or June 4 doubleheaders?

Alright, here goes. A thread of what I’d suggest for this winter. I am not The Big Change Guy you probably want me to be.

Enter this 12-tweet thread only if you dare. First, I would re-sign Nick Castellanos. While I do believe fan servicing may have misguided f.o. decisions in 2019, I’m starting off with some fan service.

I also think as a player and person, he crosses the right boxes for the future of this organization.

There are four very important dates to keep an eye on in the next five weeks for the Cubs. How the Cubs handle these, while simultaneously competing for a division, will be really interesting. A thread (1/5)... The first is for Victor Caratini: August 13.

That’s the earliest date the Cubs can option Caratini to Iowa and *not* have 2019 count as his final option season. Preserving his one option remaining would be a nice way to protect against unexpected struggles in future years. (2/5)

Going to start Opening Day with a story on a player I really respect, a player that has earned the honor he’ll receive today.

This is the thread of his minor league path. (1/8) 2013 - first full yr. Impresses in spring. Hard worker. Gets chance to fill in as High-A bench player. In May, gets a regular job in Low-A. In 17 games, hits 143/311/224. Sent down to short-season ball.

Had they drafted a dude that June at his position, perhaps he gets released.
