learning that some folks didn’t get packed up and sent back every year or so

i was not fond of my family in Savannah—they had more money than my northern family and thought about god in boring ways—but at least i knew them

this is what book #2 is half about but when i think about it that way, that many great black migration families looked at themselves as *getting away* from the south, instead of *moving*…i’ll just say that a lot of the contemporary spiritual landscape makes a lot of sense from that perspective
