1/ This is such an interesting read, and GE is such a fascinating company. Definitely a caution tale for someone like Andy Jassy taking over one of the world's most valuable companies among similar accolades to Immelt's rise to CEO of GE. nytimes.com/2021/02/05/bus…2/ Back in 2009-2010 GE got super interested in charging infrastructure, and at the time Better Place was one of the hot Silicon Valley companies working on EVs.
We ended up working together, but how we did so was to me one of the craziest processes of corporate mismanagement.

1/ Impressive to see the @gatesfoundation mobilize quickly against Coronavirus. Bill's 2015 TED talk about this seems especially prescient now. youtube.com/watch?v=6Af6b_…2/ Jan 26: the Foundation commits $10m to help China and Africa frontline response teams "implement the screening and treatment of suspected cases, laboratory confirmation of 2019-nCoV diagnoses and the safe isolation and care of identified cases."
This is an amazing read. The world is better off because Bill and Melinda are so focused on improving it, on a scale almost unimaginable, except that it is real.

"When we first started working in global health, we were shocked to learn how many children in low-income countries were still dying from diseases that could have been prevented.
By 2019, Gavi had helped vaccinate more than 760 million children and prevent 13 million deaths."

1/ Let me tell you about the most San Francisco thing I've ever seen.
A few days ago, private cars lost access to Market St., so now it's only buses & bikes. I walked out of our office and felt that Market St was a little emptier, a little friendlier feeling.
2/ I look across the street, and see a food truck, and a line of happy SF residents waiting in line for some Korean BBQ. Then I notice they're all looking at something, and my eyes travel towards a curious thing.

1/ Really enjoyed this presentation and post by @astrange on the coming wave of innovation in fintech. If you're interested in this space, this is a good one to spend a Sunday morning watching and reading. a16z.com/2020/01/21/eve…2/ As it just so happens that Clay Christensen, whose class I got the privilege to take, passed away this week, when I saw this key slide from the talk it made me immediately pause and think about the "Jobs to be Done" theory. This is textbook Christensen.

1/ Seven million people visit the Grand Canyon each year. Most of them just look down from the rim, maybe hike a bit down towards the river. That's all I've done before.
30,000 get to raft it, and I got the chance to raft it this year. Got to look up from the bottom. 2/ What a magical place. Two hundred miles of rafting and kayaking and camping down to places like Havasu Creek...

1/ Just finished reading Kai-Fu Lee's "AI Superpowers" (thanks for the recommendation @JonathanZWhite) smile.amazon.com/AI-Superpowers…2/ Found it equally informative about AI and about the state of the tech industry in China. The "big idea" is essentially that with progress in deep learning, the next phase of AI development is less about true breakthroughs and more about access to data...
