Here is a little story about trusting your own taste. Six years ago I saw this painting hanging in the back hallway of a local coffee shop and fell in love with it.

It was like the painter had externalized everything I believe about the relationship between art and science. I asked the owner if I could buy it and they said they would sell it to me for $700 or $800, I don't remember how much I paid. Somewhere in that range. My husband (then boyfriend) was skeptical but I was like look at the details, it's a masterpiece.
