The moment I laid eyes on him, I gasped. The shock rooted me to the spot, my eyes wide, unable to blink.
It wasn't because he couldn't walk or any part of him was incomplete, but because his presence struck me.
He looked nothing like the cranky, early morning video calls.
His pictures hadn't done justice.
"Hey...Tonye, you're here," he said as he walked up to me staring right through me. I felt it in the pit of my stomach, my legs almost giving way beneath me.
"Hi Joel," I managed to say, quickly avoiding his eyes.
I sat down, trying to

It all started like any other thursday morning until my phone rang.
"Hey, where are you ? I've been waiting for you."
"For who?" I replied, a little confused.
"For you, Tomi."
I glanced at my phone's screen, then brought it back to my ear.
"I'm not Tomi. This is a wrong number," I said, hanging up and tossing the phone on the bed as I continued folding my clothes.
But my phone rang again. It was the same number. He wouldn't stop calling.
"I told you, I'm not Tomi!" My voice was sharp, frustration spilling over.

All was going well in my marriage until my husband got a job after sixteen months of waiting.
Eight months into his new job, suddenly, he got so busy that he would fall asleep while we were having our bedtime chat or wouldn't even listen to me when I talked.
Everytime my husband received this call, he would look at me and I would pretend not to have noticed, then he'd stand up from his chair and leave the room.
At first, I didn't see it as anything. I thought it was just a call from work.

When Folahan left for work that morning, we had just had another fight.
"Bye, I'm going to work," I said to him before slamming the door behind him without waiting for a reply.
Normally, before we started fighting in our marriage, we'd call in to check on each other at work, but it stopped.
When I got back home from work that evening, he was already at home.
"Hey baby..." he said, smiling at me when I got in.
"You're home early. What happened?"

In less than three months of starting my job, I was asked to sign a document and make a transfer to an account that turned out to be untraceable.
That morning, my colleague approached me and informed me that our boss had summoned me to his office.
"Sunmisola, what did you do?" she asked, folding her hands across her chest. I stopped typing and looked at her, confused.
"What do you mean? What happened?" I asked.
"The boss wants to see you. And ..." She shook her head in pity,
"I think...well, I think you should go...

His email arrived like a thunderbolt in the middle of the night, and it sent shivers down my spine.
I didn't know what to expect, but when my boss called me into his office the next day, I knew my life was about to take an unexpected turn.
Little did I know that fate had a plan in store for me, and it would soon reveal itself in the form of a tall, dark, and handsome stranger- his son; Adeleke.
As I entered his office, he looked at me, adjusted his glasses, and looked back at his laptop.

2021 was the year that brought me to tears, as I felt like my life was hanging by a thread.
I had never cried as much as I did in 2021.
Despite having a job, I was financially struggling. I remember someone once looking at me and saying...
"You're earning a salary, but it's not reflecting in your appearance." That night, those words had a deep impact on me and I couldn't help but cry. I prayed and cried to God, simply asking, "Show me the path I should take."
One important lesson I've learned is that prayer works.

He called to tell me he was going to be in Nigeria for the next week and would love us to meet again.
"I will make sure it's worth your time," he pleaded on the phone.
"Okay," I said.
Our first date was good. We talked freely, laughed and he mentioned he loved Ludo.
He called himself a King at it, and I teased him, telling him other men were kings at chess but he chose to be a local champion.
"At least I am good at one. What do you know?"he said,& we laughed. We didn't stop chatting ,& he didn't stop calling me.

Sometimes, someone comes along and helps you break free from your shell, encouraging you to embrace life again. I met someone, and he made me happy until he couldn't anymore.
It was the first wedding I attended after my last relationship ended.
I needed a break from my Aunties' relentless questions about my husband & went to the back of the hall to escape the noise.
Barely two minutes into sitting there, he walked in. He was wearing a white native, tall with glowing dark skin & an attractive face.
"Hi," he greeted.

"What's that?" I asked hurrying towards the door. As I reached it, I saw his gateman standing there with a cloth soaked in blo*d, and a heavily stained white singlet pressed against his head.
"What happened?" I asked, terrified by the sight.
"Car key...my car key," he said...
...rushing into the house to look for it.
"Jide, be careful...there are broken glasses on the floor."
" I'm so sorry...what happened to you?" I asked the man, but he just stood there staring at me, tears rolling down his cheeks.
"Jide! Jide, it's there," I said pointing...

I looked at her as sleep vanished from my eyes.
"Can you please talk? Have you two met before now?"
She moved closer and hugged me tightly. I pulled away, stood up from the bed, and faced her. At that moment, I could hear my own heartbeat, as if waiting for a b*mb to go off.
She faced me, leaning against the bed frame.
"If I tell you to leave him, will you?"
I didn't know whether to nod or shake my head. I had started to develop feelings for Jide, especially after the wonderful evening we shared and the memories he created with me.

So, I jokingly told my friend to give me her brother's number after she posted his picture on her Whatsapp status saying, "Single to stupor...serious ladies only."
I really just wanted to catch cruise, so I replied her saying," ahnahn you've been hiding him from us?" I teased.
She replied almost immediately asking if I had ended things with my ex and I said, "Yes, it has been six months."
"Ooops I didn't know."
"It's nothing, really. Besides, we've not been in each other's space since we left school.

I visited my friend at Yaba a couple of days back. I was with her when another friend of hers walked in smiling.
"Why do you seem so excited?" My friend asked.
"Guess what?"
"Just say it."
"It worked."
"What worked? Can you just talk?" her voice filled with anticipation.
She moved closer to my friend and whispered in her ear. My friend's eyes widened, and she let out a scream, slapping her legs multiple times.
I looked at them pretending to be engrossed in what I was reading.
She handed her the phone and told her to read some messages.

The phone call abruptly ended before I could even bend to pick up my phone from the floor.
Further attempts to call my parents failed, and panic set in as I realized there was no network signal. I didn't even have another number. Just one!
Suddenly, everywhere went quiet...
like an angel had passed, the only sound was that of my pounding heart.
My heart started beating faster like a train pounding on the tracks. And I knew whoever it was, was standing right behind the door

Right from my secondary school days, I had never been lucky with getting away with things people did and easily got away with.
Every time I tried, it ended up in disaster.
I never intended to meet Yemi that way. Looking back, I wish I had trusted my gut.
I had a sinking feeling that it would break me...and it did.
Just a couple of months after my 21st birthday, I found myself chatting with a guy on an anonymous dating app. It was exciting - we couldn't send pictures until we met in person which only added to the suspense.

I just randomly remembered a time when we went to a fellowship camp in school and I could hear voices, drums, and other sounds coming from the bed that was assigned to me.
I told everyone about it, but they thought I was joking.
Another lady came to listen, but couldn't hear anything. With my ear pressed against the bed, the beat and voices had gotten louder.
Eventually, they changed my bed, and another girl slept on the bed instead.

You know that feeling that comes with attending weddings, smiling, and waiting for your turn to get married? Well, I once attended a wedding in Ibadan, where they projected videos from the couple's proposal and some of their sweet memories.
Believe me! The hall was silent with everyone's face glued to the screen. It was so beautiful to watch. I got so emotional, and couldn't control the tears that rolled down my cheeks. Took a couple of deep breaths as I tried not to smear my makeup any further.

It was meant to be a sweet and calm night. I was exhausted from work but my cousin insisted I attended an event she was hosting.
" I need you to be there for me... please," She said over the phone.
If I could change the hands of time, I'd erase that date from the calendar.
I struggled to get to the event which was held at an expensive hotel garden in Lagos. I was putting on a red dress and slippers. I didn't care if I wasn't looking good enough for the event. I wanted to be on my bed. I planned to just say hi to my cousin and leave immediately.
