So a week agoI logged into the National Board website and learned that I had scored enough points on the most recent two components to be officially certified as a National Board Certified Teacher.
(Thread) I viewed this as a Covid project, completed components 1&4 in 2020-2021, and components 2&3 in this past year. It took a lot of work, probably 40 hours each for components 2, 3, and 4. Component 1 was a comp based test on math, and as precalc/calc teacher, didn’t have to study.

This was really fun to play with on Desmos. 1/n Here's what sampling from a normal distribution looks like with the law of large numbers. Mean is converging to the mean of the normal dist (in this case 1). desmos.com/calculator/2ha… 2/n

This week I asked the students to attend a small group (<=5) 10 min meeting with me to talk about our past and our future for the class. Since we're asynchronous, this is the first time that I've "required" them to go to a google meet. I assigned no other work this week. There were three days of google meets scheduled, this took up pretty much all the time that I can put forth for school work during the day (with the other meetings and such also scheduled).
Of my ~100 students, ~70 showed up to the pre-scheduled meeting.

I've been asking the students to fill out weekly feedback forms. What is going on? Do you need anything? What is working? What can we do better? etc.
Here's the form sent out a couple of days ago. Takeaways: 1. The kids are mostly stressed or bored. Many specifically mention being stressed AND bored. Not many are loving it (mostly a duh, but it's interesting to see that there are some who love it.) Some are anxious and are worried about the health of their family.

Wonderful @numberphile video featuring chaos, Julia, Mandelbrot and @SparksMaths . I rewrote my Mandelbrot drawer after being inspired by this video by @SparksMath (maybe my 4th rewrite!) Interactive: openprocessing.org/sketch/701474 Left mouse click to zoom in, right click to zoom out. 'o' to turn the orbit on/off. 'j' to turn the related julia set on/off.

My wife asked if I could make something like this photo (but a little different) so we could print it up and put it up in our house.... Um ... YES I CAN! #mathart (what I have after a bit of hacking around)
