We have had the same story with radiation and that's why there are so many cancers in the world.
First they got rid of Gofman. @JamieMetzl @thackerpd @mattwridley
1/ In his 1996 book,[3] Gofman claimed that exposure to medical x-rays is responsible for about 75 percent of breast cancers in the United States.

This statement from the Canadian government is true: "There has never been a case of breast cancer proven to be caused from radiation exposure during a mammogram."

THREAD
1/ You can prove that mammograms have caused many cancers (Corcos & Bleyer, NEJM, 2020) but you can't prove that a given cancer is caused by a mammogram.
However it would be possible in the future to prove that a given cancer is caused by radiation from imaging.

There is large evidence showing that ionizing radiation creates DNA damage, the main mechanism of cancer. X-rays used in radiology are ionizing radiation.

The trial was criticised five years ago by 22 prominent U.S. scientists who doubted it would have any effect. Washington was accused of wasting more than a $100 million (63 million pounds) by funding it.

“It was a tough decision. I am glad we made it,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who defied the criticism and continued the trial.

1. This is a model without any observational data.
2. This is ridiculous: there is less than 20 million black women in the USA.
3. According to all long term observational studies, we hardly see any benefit of mammography screening on cancer deaths in women over 50 ...

1) Let’s suppose that you screen for cancer people aged 50 to 75 years every 2 years and remove all the cancers you detect for 25 years.
After 25 years of this, in people over 75 years, will you find: 2) Answer: fewer prostate cancers; but more breast cancers.

1) BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes code for proteins involved in the repair of double-strand DNA breaks, the damage caused by ionizing radiation, including X-ray. Unfortunately, for BRCA1/2 mutation carriers the NCCN guideline is mammography screening from age 30. 2) This is based on flawed articles suggesting an absence of risk.

Mammography-induced cancers. First publication in the New England Journal of Medicine. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31875513 Here we show that previous screening dramatically decreases the incidence of prostate cancer in the elderly as a consequence of removing slow cancers, whereas decades of mammography screening leads to more cancers in old women, indicating the presence of mammography-induced K.
