The American Cancer Society ad that runs constantly on CNN makes me cringe.
"I used to have cancer. I beat it"
It's disrespectful to those at Stage IV, and those who have died.

Saying a person "beat" cancer implies that cancer can be overcome by personal effort, and conversely, it implies that those with incurable disease, or those who died, didn't try hard enough.

Two years ago today, Yosif Al-Hasnawi intervened when two men were harassing an older man on the streets of Hamilton. A confrontation occurred. Within minutes, Yosif had been shot. Left on the sidewalk by paramedics who didn't take his injuries seriously. He died an hour later.
Last week, Yosif's killer was set free. He was a meth dealer, had used meth & alcohol that night, and was illegally carrying an unlicenced, loaded, restricted weapon. He flashed his gun at Yosif, and his friend sucker punched Yosif in the head 2 or 3 times. They ran away laughing
