(1/3) Want to know why housing development is concentrated in The Mission?

Here's a map of all the plots of land on which you're legally allowed to add more than 5 homes (what zoning laws allow vs current usage): (2/3) It's not because developers WANT to colonize low-income neighborhoods.

It's because the SF gov made The Mission one of the few places you can build housing! To pander to rich NIMBY homeowners, the city makes building apartments illegal in 75% of the city (the red parts):
