In my eyes being “connected” to your people and culture as a Native doesn’t just mean enrollment. It doesn’t always mean being right there with your community.

Sometimes people can connect through their family or other natives who are not apart of the “main community” life. This is something that has been bothering me with Keeler’s list. She will invalidate people based on if their community claims them but this usually centers on the major heads of the community. But they will not know everyone.

I have ADHD… This is how I emphasize and relate with people, letting them know that I hear them and understand them.

Can we normalize not shaming communication styles that are common in neurodivergent people instead? It’s so much easier for y’all to try recognize that this isn’t always people being like “oh time to talk about me now” and more “I see you, I hear you” than it is for us to completely change the way we communicate with other people.
