While the deal claims to "respect each other’s decision-making autonomy" the reality is rather different. First, on fishing. Talk of "full reciprocal access" to fishing waters is just nonsense. Britain has excellent fishing grounds of its own. This deal is 12 years of EU trawlers raiding British resources.

The @Telegraph story on Serco holding conferences for landlords to rent accommodation to asylum seekers, paid by the taxpayer, is excellent journalism, though it is nothing new. It has been stated policy by the government to pay for asylum seekers' room and board since 1999.
The 1999 Immigration and Asylum Act mandates the Home Secretary to accommodate asylum seekers. Now, do they need to rent private homes or hotel rooms for this? No. The govt could build secure accommodation on government owned land, but it refuses to do this.
