Totally into this being the new norm if that’s the case, it’s just a very new concept for me. But! Could be a positive downstream effect of the dreaded wokeness, high schoolers applying their politics at the hyper local level. Also: I’ve had multiple friends who spent part of their childhood in the uk or continental Europe, and they all said “oh my GOD American kids were so much meaner.”

Might be ready to give these another spin 😎 It’s interesting how they perfectly parallel the structure of the Antoine Doinel films SO FAR:

- Feature Film (Before Sunrise / 400 Blows)
- Short Film (Waking Life / Antoine and Colette)
- Feature (Before Sunset / Stolen Kisses)
- Feature (Before Midnight / Bed and Board)

I’ve shot something on film exactly twice — my own shitty student film and someone else’s — and one thing that was really interesting was how the depth of field you saw through the viewfinder wasn’t necessarily what you’d get on the printed film. So you could have something in focus in the viewfinder but, due to having the aperture all the way open, actually have it be soft when it came back from the lab, but something behind it or in front of it be sharper. And that’s why they actually measure focus with a tape measure.

For a couple of professional World Understanders you seem to have a hard time appreciating that when a new blowhard boss comes in, sweeps away everything that was working, and demands people work twice as hard to implement his untested vision, people don’t *want* to stick around Shocking to imagine but maybe twitter engineers understand their own company better than we do? And can see the writing on the wall that working there is about to get a ton worse for no defensible reason?

Watching Seven Psychopaths and it’s really distracting me how Colin Farrell looks ten years older in this than he did in In Bruges despite it only being four years later. On the one hand it’s activating all of my gay guy in LA insecurities but on the other it actually is incredibly generous of screen actors to smoke and not wear sunscreen and age naturally like that because it feels like you’re watching a slightly different person every few movies

Three Billboards rewatch: I didn’t hate it I still think it’s an incredibly clumsy movie, honestly more so than the first time, but I think what rubbed me the wrong way so much the last time around is that it felt cynical.

there are a lot of very good things on TV right now but nothing with dialogue this good Since my tweets rarely break 1000, I’m just going to casually mention that I wrote a three part series about fictional English author Reginald Sneden, that’s basically “what if Sherlock Holmes was even more of a sociopath?”

Okay remember when I literally got a hair stuck to my eyeball for an hour and couldn’t get it out despite dumping a whole gallon of water on it and then finally got lucky and snagged it? I was just scrolling through my camera roll and the photo I took actually turned out okay. Question: should I post it?

The two things I believe about mass shootings are (a) almost all of the ones that end in capture were supposed to end in suicide and (b) LOTS of potential mass shooters “grow out of” the phase where it’s a potential path for them, and become abusive husbands and fathers instead. With rare exceptions (very young, VERY stupid), I don’t think anybody gets into extreme racist ideology without already being a bad and unfixable person. I’m not interested in humanizing them, and I don’t think most people are either.

One way in which euphoria is not pulp fiction is that, for all of Tarantino’s arguably problematic qualities, he almost never asks his performers to take their clothes off Definitely not a prude, and I’ll always defend the use of nudity in the abstract, but I do think it’s worth highlighting when a director uses it purposefully and selectively rather than as wallpaper (contra Game of Thrones and, I assume, Euphoria).
