i've learned it's about sharing the process. not about the progress.

this flow is something i drew 1y ago. it's fast to draw. and slow to make it happen.

a look into the notebook that formed Amie. /thread Image a few logo explorations.

if you don't find the vibe in 10min, you won't find it in 10h

yes, it's a vvvvvvibe not a science Image

on july 17 2019 i flew to LA. just 13h after leaving my job.

my entire life in this bag. i told people, that i'll go on some travels. and i wasn't starting a company, really. but i did.

a personal story. Image i was sitting in venice. sketching and drawing the very beginning here.

the street abbot kinney won me in a second. it felt like the right place to start a journey. that would require all my creativity Image

11 months ago i had never designed a product. 3 months ago i had never designed brand.

before that, i blew $11k+ for designs. all because i thought "i am not good enough".

/thread of our own brand design exploration for @tryamie in general we set out to capture feelings. and moments. we described it as "movement in stillness". Image

We've brought tens of thousands of people on our waitlist in 2 months. Now we want to hire someone to do more of that. I always found job descriptions super boring.

Here are our thoughts for this important role. You can actually comment on that doc too!

notion.so/amieso/Growth-… This quote summarizes our view on Growth vs Marketing:

"The discipline of marketing is shifting from people-centric to API-centric activities" (@andrewchen)

glucose measuring is almost certainly going to come to the masses.

here are my last 24h and pretty happy with the consistency. Image there are a few startups building this. they sell users on technology, when all they do is a brand battle.

they’re relying on white-labeled sensors from the same company.

not quite sure what to think of giving people this false impression.

i think we don’t talk enough about whatsapp‘s design.

it’s a phenomenally designed app. it literally works just like you think.

one put their pms has told me that they have to test features for 12-18m. all to be sure that their billions of users get along with those features.

not to mention the impact it has o. everyday lives.

it’s the main way for my family to keep up with what i am doing.

Virtually all organizations install PMs to solve user problems.

In my eyes product is a meta job. Every person in your organization that doesn't think about the user slows down the rest. Never thought titles matter much. It turns out _naming_ matters a lot.

It made a huge difference to adopt "they" instead of assuming a gender.

In this case we've renamed our Software Engineer position to Product Engineer.

seems like i found pmf with this tweet.

so let’s do: one like one truth about product managers

(from the perspective of an ex pm) they prepare the ~sprint~ 5min before the planning starts.

but can defend their thoughts like they’ve prepared like justin bieber for his gigs

"it's on the backlog" aka it's not going to happen "the developers will fix it" aka they won't do anything

Amoji V1 is finished. Uploading to Testflight right now.

Like, RT or DM to get early access.

Also shipping to @AppAirport soon. Was pretty fun to build this baby project over the last two days.

Feels gooood to contribute to the Testflight hype hah

It's Saturday 12:52pm in Germany. Time for new Testflight app.

I see more and more people with Memojis as avatars.

So now I am building Amoji (Memoji x @tryamie).

The idea is simple: you choose your memoji and a nice background. And then you save it to your camera roll. cc @remsandos @benjaminhtr1 @danielafromamie @linuscodes @Victor_Patru

This is also inspired by @fast's Fastronaut helmet idea :)

Nearly no one knows the humble beginning of @tryamie.

It was scrappy. And started out with me coaching 30 friends on their habits.

I created a WhatsApp group with each of the testers. They always send me a picture. This confirmed they've done their part. Image This was the chat with @WieandtEduard. He wanted to get up before 6:30 every day.

The toothbrush was a sign of "I won't go back to bed".

Messages are timestamped, so I was always sure he had achieved his daily habit.

I've been interviewing a lot for @tryamie.

I wonder: What happens if candidates get the questions before?

So, here is what I may ask in the first interview: Image 2/9
Everybody in the startup world advises you to build a world class team.

The problem is that those people rarely give examples of what that means.

Checking the website of @pointcardhq. Getting strong vibes.

Nice inspirations from Sonos, Apple and even a lil nod to Dieter Rams.

Very few things to improve here.

LOL, VCs from "Silicon Valley" are not happy about the @tryamie round... Russ, if you had send a video memo like @la_grimms, you'd now be part of that "1B situation".

So proud to have Laura on board 😇

There's always a before the startup story. Some startups get planned in a spreadsheet and others happen organically.

Here's what ultimately led to coco.so The story of flying to LA right after quitting my job @n26 Image From June to August I was experimenting a lot. I became the habit coach of 35 friends.

This is me helping @WieandtEduard get up before 6:30. He sent me his toothbrush in our coco WhatsApp group.

I held him accountable and motivated. Image

Learning 27/90: On finding unique insights. Talking to your users is obviously good advice. But it doesn't help so much with what to talk about in the first place.

Yes it's about them and their experiences anyways. Before talking to users, you should figure out your world view. Why should your product exist. In my case I made one strong realization (which will get a separate post). I wasn't reachable Monday through Saturday and so didn't get the usual rapid feedback from friends/ colleagues.

For my unique insight this was important.
