Our newest report finds police killed 1,127 people nationwide in 2020, disproportionately impacting Black communities -- more than every year on record but 2018.

We also found that most police killings began when police responded to mental health crises, traffic violations, domestic disturbances or other non-violent offenses.
Shaun King is running a long con & this is just the tip of the iceberg.
At the very least, he needs to:
1. Immediately & publicly release all former North Star staff from NDAs w/ no penalty.
2. Stop soliciting funds altogether, immediately.

There are more questions than answers re: #JussieSmollett in light of the CPD’s arrest & bond document. At this point, they should release all of the materials. And this is a also a lesson on quick & uncritical media reporting. 1/
Why did the CPD leak that Jussie waited 40 minutes to call the police? Sources close to Jussie say 911 was called immediately. There is only one right answer here.

THREAD. Why is the Chicago Police Department intentionally spreading misinformation about #JussieSmollett? Even if I didn't know him, I'd be concerned just about the way information has "leaked" via "sources" within the Chicago PD to reporters. And it's been since day one. 1/
It was reported that "sources" w/in the Chicago PD said that Jussie refused to release his phone records. Then they quietly noted that he *never* refused to the phone records. He denied giving them his *phone.* They don't need his phone to access his phone records. 2/

The Baton Rouge Police Chief was fine-ish during this press conference until he just said, "To the residents of Baton Rouge, please treat our officers with the respect that they deserve and they will reciprocate that respect. Stop resisting arrest. Stop running."
The Baton Rouge Police Chief essentially just said if you think an officer was unprofessional or abused you, you need to endure the abuse and then "get with your family and file a complaint." This is a joke and it's insulting.

The response of white people that they “work(ed) hard” as a way to dismiss every aspect of systemic and structural racism is one of the few things that pushes me over the edge.
Structural & intergenerational white wealth IS NOT the byproduct of hard work. The government literally gave assets to white people or took (i.e. stole) labor and assets to convert into white wealth.
