There’s a lot of talk about “immunity” from the Young Thug case but I haven’t seen anyone do a thread on it (and why what the judge and prosecutors did is so egregious)

I’m a (recovering) criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor. Here’s a thread on criminal immunity

🧵 First, why does (the concept of) immunity exist?

Imagine you catch a narcotics purchaser with drugs. That’s a “crime” but like…is it really a crime? You know what I mean?

So you don’t reeeeaaaaaally care about the drug possession...but you want to get the dealer.

A thread:

The Maricopa County Attorney, @Rachel1Mitchell just sought a warrant of execution.

That’s…unusual. The AG has always done it. But @AZAGMayes is awaiting the results of a comprehensive review of execution procedures before seeking warrants. (Okay, point of clarification — MCAO filed an order requesting a briefing schedule on a forthcoming motion for an execution warrant.)

But…can she? I am unaware of any case in which anyone BUT the attorney general sought a warrant.

It actually does, though! Right there in the 5th, 6th, and 14th amendments. You just gotta know how to read it.

The story of jury nullification is actually pretty awesome. So, here’s a thread on that.

Jury nullification — a 🧵 First, what is jury nullification? Simply put, it’s when a jury in a criminal case voted not guilty despite more than enough evidence to convict.

Think “guy admitted having a joint in his pocket and lab said it’s pot but who gives a shit this is a waste of my time so not guilty”
