So apparently in the hundreds hacks of Super Mario Bros, nobody has played with converting it to CNROM (usually they go straight for MMC mappers). A few fun things I could do with this but gonna make a hack that switches between normal and Famicom Family BASIC graphics. Family BASIC has a whole set of sprites built in that are a hodgepodge of pre-Super Mario Bros Nintendo and Hudson Soft characters. Figured it would be fun to remap them on top of Super Mario Bros enemies to get Mario Bros Flies and Crabs into the mix.

You should still pick up GRAVEYARD DUDE as part of this itchio bundle, but figured I will drop a glimpse into what's coming later this summer.

Did some tweaking to the title screen because I didn't like that the image was off-center. but the general gist is there.

Like not only do the original portraits look like crap but they make no fucking sense. They want you to believe you enter a *driving* contest with Master Blaster? Humungus is the second demolition derby boss but also the final boss of the game? Who the fuck is that other guy?

So turns out with the right tools that extracting the BASIC source code of even commercial-released Apple ][ software is insanely easy. Wish there was a tool like this for the NEC PC-8801 and similar disk systems. So I guess I'm gonna be dropping a bunch of Apple ][ text adventure game BASIC source code on my Ko-Fi in the near future. I've used CiderPress before, not sure why I never made myself a personal archive of classic text adventure source code before now.

Feeling a little stressed and burned out and maybe losing my mind a little so I decided to dip outside the kusoge well into the "so dreadfully bad you'll be hard pressed to find any positive words said about it" games. But I feel like I'm making some progress despite myself. Cartridges of this game go for a decent amount of money, but not as much as they did a couple years ago when Angry Video Game Nerd reviewed it. Probably because of the emerging NES repro market, which has guys like the right selling obvious bootlegs of this already bootleg game.

Guess what I'm making. So here is the backstory. I've been hacking a lot of Power Joy software lately, and there are these... attempts at FPS. Below is Power Joy Final Fighter (left) which is a redo of their previous game Final Blood (right). It's got scaling and 360 rotation, but walking is broken.

I don't know if this is a secret pleasure anyone else has, but it gives me so much joy when download links (like for older software or retro samples or whatever) on websites archived by the Wayback Machine work. It's how I have a whole archive of software and apps for Palm Pilot that I swear I will install on the two working Palm Pilots I have lying around one of these fucking days.
