Nevertheless, this is the correct context in which to understand today’s extraordinary sentencing statements, by Judge Guy Kearl, KC, linked above. During which Jason Parlour, 28, of Leeds was sentenced, to twenty-two months prison time, for a Facebook post receiving ‘6 Likes,’ in the judge’s words; which also took aim at the privacy settings on Mr Parlour’s account.

In an unprecedented development cameras where not merely allowed into English criminal courtrooms, their prohibition so severe as to merit jailing if breached, the footage of Parlour’s sentencing for the underlying crime, of threatening the migrant Britannia hotel, was also edited by government, before being present to The Times newspaper for distribution.

Such government editing placing, Justice Kerl’s comments, over the de facto speech crimes he had considered Parlour to have made, during the 28-year old’s interview by officers, constituting the criminal intent. Immediately before, the judge’s remarks that, what had preceded was an, "offence so serious an immediate custodial sentence is unavoidable."
