I feel like there's a lot of "but you promised that if we did everything we were supposed to it would be over by now". And, putting aside the thing where we collectively didn't do everything we were supposed to ... ... trying to bargain in this way with the people who offered in-hindsight-overoptimistic predictions involves this painfully obvious catastrophic misunderstanding of the basic causal structure of the situation.
