If they were Black African girls they would end up being sold as child abuse victim stock photos.

Fact. It's such an important thread by @ninafunnell

And it highlights the depths of racism that Black African child survivors of sexual abuse face.

@MSF facilitated a child recently gang raped to be photographed and image sold on Getty.

They really did.

🧵 Last year @CIWEM_EPOTY got a pretty significant online kicking for promoting exploitative photography. And at it's very worst @CIWEM_EPOTY thought it OK to promote on Instashite a photo of a traumatised woman, clearly trying to hide her face from the camera, stood in the ashes of her home that JUST burned down, killing her child.

This Black African woman was gang raped. She says 'I am trying to forget about it'

@MSF paid the photographer donor money to put a net on her face and shoot her.

We are told this is 'sensitive' and 'dignified'.

Photo can now be sold as stock.

#msfexploits Image TW (trauma) It was the image which prompted me to look at @MSF relationship with @MagnumPhotos which consists imho of exploiting their patients and telling the world how heroic each other are.

60 days later the archive is all still up. For sale. Stock thumbs grabbed today. ImageImageImageImage

🧵This is welcome.

We will continue to campaign for

1: An independent investigation into the abuse of patients rights at MSF (remember ONLY a few weeks ago they defended identifying child rape survivors) ... 2: Justice for the people in the images, who continue to be exploited directly or indirectly by MSF.

3: Transparent, enforceable child protection policy.

MSF should commit to stop funding photo agencies that exploit children.

It's 26 days since I first tweeted that a 14 year old child sought help at a @MSF sexual violence clinic hours after a gang-rape.

And ended up for sale on a stock library. £375.

(my pixelation)

gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-ph… Image According to the caption she was internally injured, and needed drugs to prevent HIV transmission.

For the drugs to work the rape had to have taken place within 72 hours.

THE IMAGE IS STILL FOR SALE.

Yesterday @halecar2 clearly articulated that he will continue to trade and profit from August Sander NFT's irrespective of the (disputed) legality.

He was explicit about this.

Punchy. Like many things in that world as an exercise in archiving it is beyond parody. That may change but not holding breath.

As an exercise in profiteering it could be suicidal if people decide to sue.

1. So I'm looking to bring a Ukrainian family I filmed with to the UK.

Within 12 hours of putting something on social ten different families local to me have offered their homes.

Many others offering financial support. 2. These are all families within a few streets of my house. There is a huge amount of compassion and goodwill out there.

But the government created a hostile environment for those coming to the uk.

Their words not mine.

How can any photographer who cares about the artform/artists rights collaborate with @fellowshiptrust until they address this?

Gregory Halpern (@G_Halpy) in particular your silence is troubling (to put it mildly) Ten days after the images were removed from Opensea @fellowshiptrust still are promoting the 10k August Sander drop on their twitter header ... leading to 'This Page Is Lost'.

Reminder. The sale generated over $1000000.

10 days.

In the absence of honest answers I'm left thinking that the 10000 August Sander images marketed and/or sold by @halecar2 @G_Halpy @fellowshiptrust have been removed from @opensea cause they never had the right to sell them in the first place.

Tell me that's not true @halecar2? I say that because they've had a week to answer the very simple question

'Why have the photos been removed?'.

Refusing to answer that question shows a lack of integrity.

Apparently all the August Sander photo/NFTs have disappeared.

A straight question demands a straight answer @halecar2.

What happened? March the 14th.

'I noticed my August Sander piece isn't in my @opensea
account'

No answer from @halecar2.

So The British Journal of Photography sold out its twitter account with 250000 followers into a NFT marketing account called 'art3'.

They started a new account for photography. Which has 836 followers.

And in doing so destroyed their reputation and reach. This isn't funny.

It's really sad. And I'm surprised that more people in the British photo community are not

1: Horrified by what is going on
2: Speaking up about the cluster fuck that is NFT's which apparently have hollowed out the BJP from the inside.

The background to this is that the photographer @Jonasbendiksen created a book of fake photos (CGI people) and the world's leading photojournalism festival thought they were real and showed the work as a news project. Humans are obviously extremely susceptible to be tricked. Nothing new there.

But in this case Chloe Miskin, a fake Facebook account set up by Jonas, was actually telling the photojournalism community correctly that the work is fake.

It seems no-one did anything.

'Provides history and context.'

This important labour of love was self-funded. Amazing really. 'Black Film Archive is a resource Maya has been hoping to discover for as long as she can remember. In June 2020, she decided to start building it herself. Every word on Black Film Archive is thoroughly researched and lovingly written by her.

I mean these tweets were an attempt to get me and @chiragwakaskar to blow up you as an 'unethical' photog weren't they?

And there is a real history of false accusations being made against me by Magnum Photos staff and photographers. As I said it clearly was a 'side project'. And also 'legitimate'. As it tuned out the 'cancel mob' was a fiction.

It also gave me pause to think about how my prejudice affects my judgement. So thank you for this.

But there is a history there Jonas.

Apparently @Visapourlimage having been unable to distinguish a conceptual cartoon from journalism have issued a statement saying

'The debate has not started and there will be a proper discussion'.

Perhaps @jf_leroy could discuss the photo of him I've included below? It was taken at the 2015 festival.

He was handing out $10000 to Souvid Datta for his work on child sexual exploitation and trafficking.

Work that has been proven to be fraudulent.

Why didn't the 'debate' start then?

You know it's much cheaper and quicker to get poor people to pose EXACTLY how you want them to than messing around with CGI.

Just ask Steve McCurry.

(as pointed out by @AnnemarieBala) What makes @Jonasbendiksen project so on point is not future fear of deep fakes. It's that @Visapourlimage, the world's 'leading' photojournalism festival, can't tell cartoons from real people.

Like not at all.

So many questions raised by this @EugeneSmithFund statement. Are the trustees reducing child abuse to 'historical traditions and practices'?

Criticism was that Gualazzini outed child survivors of rape.

Those 'allegations' are not 'historical'.

One of the children he did it to is still a child.

First would you commit to not funding projects where Western photogs out extremely sick, vulnerable children who are HIV positive?

(work funded in 2017) ABOUT THE COVER:

' ******, a 12-year-old boy with an advanced case of AIDS, gets an x-ray at Asokoro District Hospital in Abuja, Nigeria.'

Imagine walking into an American hospital and doing that. No. You can't.

Exploitation.

Another one for you @nowhitesaviors

The judges of @EugeneSmithFund need to provide some clarity.

@marciaallert @edalziel @DarcyNYT @mhamtil

Do you really think outing children as survivors of rape is anything but contemptible?

Because the message you are sending out is exploit children if you want to get on. @EugeneSmithFund @marciaallert @edalziel @DarcyNYT @mhamtil .@edalziel

You are based in the UK (like me).

Please provide some clarity.

Do you think the UK law and press code is wrong. That it is it both unethical and illegal to identify child survivors of rape?

@marciaallert @edalziel @DarcyNYT @mhamtil
