A vision for a healthy care system is one that plans for the end of residential care.
NB For this to occur many other reforms have to happen. Major investment and policy shift towards early family help; Kinship care; community based fostering; Mental health support.🧵 Proviso - Approx 10% of current provision is needed for some particular individuals/disabilities. Otherwise it has to be short-term, therapeutic & rehabilitative.

#Advocacy thread.
A key recommendation in the @reviewCSC is for there to be independent, opt-out advocacy.
Implementation of this would be globally ground-breaking and a vg safeguard for children's rights.
#CareReview 🧵 Image It is confusing, difficult and sometimes traumatic entering care. An #independentadvocate is there to be on the child's side. It is someone to represent their needs and wishes so that they are central in making and reviewing care plans.

This is a thread.
Content warning death and suicide.

"We've become used to members of our community dying." I saw a Care Experienced person Tweet this the other day and I'm still thinking about it. I've also spoken to 3 members of staff in the last week who have told me about 3 of our young members who have recently died. This is totally unacceptable.
