Rivian trucks are great — as long as nothing goes wrong. When something goes wrong, they’re a disaster. I cracked the rear windshield on my R1T. Called Safelite and they quoted me $49 and 3 days to fix it. Cool. 1/7 Then Safelite called back and said: actually, we tried and we can’t get the rear windshield glass from Rivian, you’ll have to go to them directly. So I scheduled an appointment. Was a couple weeks before they could get me in. Inconvenient, but the holidays, so… 🤷🏻‍♂️ 2/7

I really thought China was likely to be the early leader in AI. I thought this because success in AI is primarily driven by unfettered access to data. I thought relatively tighter US/EU data regulations would hold AI back here. 1/N I was wrong. I was overly focused on the inputs and ignored the regulation of the outputs. While it’s embarrassing for US/EU AI systems to say racist, bigoted, treasonous things it doesn’t generally carry legal or political risk to the companies and individuals behind them. 2/N

What's wrong with @Rivian ($RIVN)? It's not the hardware. The cars themselves are great. Unfortunately, owning a car is only half about the hardware. The other half is support. And there, from my personal experience and what I've heard from others, they're a disaster. 1/N So here's my story. I am not a car person. Up until recently, the last new car I bought was a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder. And I loved it. I'm from the mountains of Utah. I loved the freedom to explore that my old Pathfinder represented. 2/N

Just sent the last @Cloudflare employment offer of 2021. I still personally send all the offers out because nothing is more important than hiring. Some numbers: We received more than 200,000 applications. We extended 1,455 offers. And we had a 92% offer acceptance rate. @Cloudflare But hiring is a team sport. It's part of everyone's job at @Cloudflare. To get to those 1,455 offers, our team spent 23,919 hours interviewing candidates. When people ask how we innovate so quickly the answer is actually really simple: we hire the best and it take a lot of work.

@dhaval_kotecha @hhhypergrowth @fiducia_invest @FintwitSummit Indeed I can… 🧵

So, when I was 6-years-old, my grandmother gave me an Apple ][+. I took to it like a duck to water. My friend (Peter) and I started writing games (text-based adventure games) for our friends in BASIC. 1/ @dhaval_kotecha @hhhypergrowth @fiducia_invest @FintwitSummit Peter and I were good at logic, bad at graphics. When we were in junior high we did the thing that made us super popular: going to computer camp. 2/

There’s a lot of buzz right now about a “massive DDoS attack” targeting the US, complete with scary-looking graphs (see Tweet below). While it makes for a good headline in these already dramatic times, it’s not accurate. The reality is far more boring. 1/X It starts with T-Mobile. They were making some changes to their network configurations today. Unfortunately, it went badly. The result has been for around the last 6 hours a series of cascading failures for their users, impacting both their voice and data networks. 2/X

We had an outage at one of @Cloudflare's core data processing facilities today. While our network and security services largely continued to run globally, our APIs and dashboard saw significant failures for the last few hours. 1/5 The outage was caused when planned maintenance decommissioned a rack of equipment was supposed to be redundant. While the equipment was redundant, there was a critical patch panel in the cabinet. Its removal caused multiple independent network connections to fail. 2/5
