In 1992 I got my break as a writer, hired to work in Norman Lear’s production company. They told me to pay my dues, not show Norman a script nor tell him I was a writer for 1 year. No problem, I was thrilled & happy to pay my dues. Next day Norman introduced himself & said, “I hear you’re a writer. Have something on my desk tomorrow.”
People ask why I champion beginning writers in which I see talent. Because I was championed by Norman Lear.
